Radio Astronomy had to face an almost unassailable hurdle in pursuing its attempts to unravel the mysteries of the cosmos due to the characteristics of the radio signals emitted from our Milky Way and the galaxies. Discovery of Radio Interferometry provided the much awaited breakthrough to create radio telescopes of huge dimensions which was hitherto considered unrealistic to achieve. With gradual development of research, useful devices such as Large Array and Very Large Array Interferometers equipped with improved Base Line values and use of technique of Aperture Synthesis, radio astronomy grew to explore the entire radio sky successfully and interpreted the data collected to derive information for a better understanding of the phenomena like Big Bang, supernova explosions, supermassive stars, dwarf galaxy, black hole, and dark matter&energy. A brief account of the development in this field has been attempted to be discussed in a popular way. Keywords

The latest fury of Nature that caught mankind all over the world totally unaware, once again reminded the human civilization that their boast of supremacy over nature could be dwarfed at any moment at its whim. Yes, it is the 8.9 magnitude earthquake that shook the entire stretch of North- East coast of Japan on Friday the 11th of March 2011. It was followed by huge 7 m high tsunami waves sweeping 6/7 Km inland submerging and destroying large number of towns and villages. The agonizing devastation has been brought to notice well to the people through TV and print media coverages. It is estimated that no less than 10,000 people in the affected region have died and more than double the number being reported missing. About 5 lakh people have been evacuated from the areas, rescue operations are still on. Japan's awful misery and extreme sufferings did not end there.

The classical experiment conducted by C T R Wilson which led to the discovery of Cloud Chamber almost a century ago was the first step towards the understanding of the methodology of cloud formation by ion droplet processes. Henceforth extensive laboratory studies established the general belief that aerosols, the liquid or solid particles greater than 100 nm in size suspended in the atmosphere nucleated by clustering, provide the seed particles for cloud formation.

On July the 4th, 2012, all over the world, people in general, and the scientific communities in particular, were extremely delighted by an extraordinary broadcast made by Joe Incandella and Fabiola Gianotti, the heads of the experiments CMS and ATLAS located in the opposite sides of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). They announced that they have been almost certain to have detected a particle identified to be the Higgs boson from its observed properties, specially its mass, as predicted by the theory. The main procedure basically consisted of two streams of protons travelling in opposite directions, with a tremendous speed nearing that of light, accelerated through a circular tunnel, 27km in circumference coming to collide headon. The project has been carried out under the particle physics laboratory at CERN near Geneva. As an introduction to the understanding of the Higgs particle, a review of the nature of the particle boson originally conceptualized by the Indian physicist. Prof. Satyendranath Bose and further elaborated by Prof Einstein would be relevant.

In this hundredth year of the existence of the General Theory of Relative an attempt has been made to highlight and outline the basic facts of this ingenious theory developed around intricate and complex mathematical derivations, in a simple and popular way as far as practicable, for the general readers. Mainly the physical ideas and facts obtained from the theory along with its application in the cosmic world to achieve the goal of its experimental validation has been discussed. The failure of general relativity to accommodate quantum theory and its consequences has also been touched.

It is a description of a scientific phenomenon, called black hole, based on simple conceptual ideas to underline the theoretical & experimental evidence of its existence. Starting from the earlier works on black hole to the latest state of its development which made it so close to reality, such that it could attract the attention of the Nobel committee to select the particular subject fit for the award of the prize, have been discussed. Keywords
